Suicide: Wife, in-laws, woman cop booked on abetment charge

Almost a week after a 32-year-old man allegedly committed suicide and blamed his wife, in-laws and a woman head constable of the Panchkula police for harassing him, the UT police registered a case of abetment of suicide.

Amandeep Saini, a resident of Sector 40, had allegedly ended his life at his house on June 7. The victim had left behind a suicide note blaming his wife, in-laws and other family members and a woman constable of the Panchkula police for provoking him to take the extreme step. The police were informed about the incident and the cops took the suicide note in their possession.

The victim’s family had also met UT police officials on Thursday, demanding registration of an FIR against people named in the suicide note.

On the deceased’s sister Balwinder Kaur complaint, a case under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 39 police station. Those booked are the victim’s wife Kulwinder Kaur, her parents and other relatives, all residents of Tibbi Badana village, Raipur Rani, Panchkula district, and Head Constable Asha Sharma.

The police have initiated an investigation into the case.
