Sufi maestro Hans Raj Hans cast a spell on the seventh day of the Chandigarh National Crafts Mela at Kalagram today.

Retaining the youthful freshness in his mellifluous voice, Hans embellished his performance with Sufi mysticism and Punjabi folk flavour.

Supported by an array of accomplished musicians, Hans paid a tribute to his teacher Khwaja Moinddin Chisti through a Sufi composition, “Raakho meri laaj garibnwaz”, created a spiritual aura.

He presented a romantic number “Usne kaha tu kaun hai” followed by a ghazal, “Dil mein sanam kda tha..”. He brought an emotional touch through “Sili sili aundi eh hawa” and Khumar Barabankvi’s ghazal “Ikk pal mein ikk sadi ka maza ham se puchhiye”.

As Hans established an instant rapport with the audience, requests poured in from the audience for his hit Bollywood and Punjabi numbers like “Ishaq di gali”, “Nit khair manga” beside kalams of Sufi mystics like Baba Bulleh Shah, Shah Hussain and others.
