Subroto Cup: City boys off to a winning start

CHANDIGARH:Government Model High School, Sector 42, started their campaign in the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament with a 3-1 win over MP Sports College, Uttarakhand, in New Delhi today.

Government Model High School, Sector 42, started their campaign in the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament with a 3-1 win over MP Sports College, Uttarakhand, in New Delhi today. 

Hemraj put MP Sports College ahead in the 22nd minute, but Thongbam Lanchenba scored a brace to help the city boys gain an upper hand before Thokchom Surjakanta struck home to seal a 3-1 win for Government Model High School.

Lanchenba scored in the 38th and 40th minutes, while Surjakanta registered his name on the goal-scorers list in the 49th minute. 

In another Pool F match, NCC NER beat SAI Kolkata by a solitary goal. Raghvender scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute.

Earlier, in Pool C, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) played a goalless draw against Greenwood School, Manipur, while defending champions Unique Model Academy, Manipur, registered a 4-0 win over Ashokenagar Boys Secondary School, West Bengal. S Annaroy (37th minute, 44th) struck twice for Unique Academy.  

In another match, Our Lady Mount Carmel High School, Goa, blanked Air Force School 2-0. Reniel D’ Mello scored the opening goal in the fourth minute, while Sanford doubled the lead 14 minutes later. 

In Pool E, Abhilin Kumar scored a double to help KV Maithon Dam, Ranchi, drub Dr YSR Sports School, Andhra Pradesh, 4-0. 

Abhilin scored in the 36th and 38th minutes. Rohit (9th) and Aniuet (23rd) added a goal each to the KV Maithon Dam tally.

In another Pool E match, Saidan Secondary School, Mizoram, thrashed Tripura Sports School 9-0. Hunmawia (11th, 18th, 34th, 49th), F Lalth (5th, 7th), B Romalawma (45th, 47th) and Jeremia (41st) scored the Mizoram side. 

DWSC HSS, Meghalaya, played a 2-2 draw against Brajbhoomi International School, Gujarat, while Major Dhyan Chand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh, registered a 6-0 win over Sanskaar Valley School, Madhya Pradesh.
