Students sensitised to RTI Act

CHANDIGARH: The Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Chandigarh, organised a one-day media workshop for students of Mass Communication and Journalism, Chandigarh University, Gharuan, under the Right to Information Act (2005), here on Wednesday. Over 35 students and faculty members took part in this programme. The training programme sponsored by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) was aimed to sensitise young media professionals to the Act and also to make them aware about the latest developments based on the judgments of the Central/State Information Commission and courts. Jarnail Singh, course director (RTI) MGSIPA, Chandigarh, while highlighting the importance of RTI Act, 2005, said this was a pro-people act and the MGSIPA organised such training programmes in all districts to generate awareness about the features of this Act. Trilingual poetry recitation contest

Chandigarh: The Literary Society of the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, organised the first edition of the Intra-Department Trilingual Poetry Recitation Competition at the PU on Wednesday. They recited poems of legendary poets, including William Wordsworth (English), Sumritranandan Panth (Hindi) and Surjit Patar (Punjabi), and also presented a self-composition. The winners of the event were Surner Singh, Jayanti Singla and Sanighdha in English language; Kumar Gautam, Rahul Sanghwan and Amrapalli Sharma in Hindi language and Jaspinder Bhullar, Seerat Singh and Jyotika Bansal in Punjabi. Along with this, the Literary Society, UILS, also organised a photography and caption-writing competition "Through the Lens" inviting original photographs and captions on the theme of Spring. Shanki, Chandan Kashyap, Dheerja and Sumandeep Tiwari were adjudged the winners in this competition. TNS
