Story no different in Kharar too

Ajit Singh (72) of Khanpur was injured after he was attacked by stray cattle around 5.30 am around 4-5 days ago near Khanpur village. The cattle attacked him while he was on his morning walk. He has been admitted to a hospital in Mohali. An ASI of the Punjab Police was also attacked by stray oxen at this place.

An old lady was seriously injured after she was attacked by a stray animal on the same spot around two months ago.

It seems that the local Municipal Council and the administration have not learnt any lesson from the past incidents. Stray cattle can be seen at the local Sabji Mandi and various garbage collection centres. Despite various claims made by the local Municipal Council to take steps to check stray cattle menace, no effective steps have been taken so far.

Residents said stray cattle could be easily seen roaming at Garden Colony. The issue was raised with Municipal Council officials, but no effective action had been taken so far.

Similarly, stray cattle could be spotted at Dashmesh Nagar and Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar. Stray cattle can also be seen sitting on the National Highway No. 21 near Kharar Bus Stand in the early hours of the day. They pose a threat to motorists commuting on the road.

Executive Officer of the Kharar Municipal Council Sandeep Tiwari said the council did not have permanent staff to check stray cattle, but the matter would be discussed in the coming meeting of the council.

A gausala situated in a temple on Landran Road is already overcrowded. There are more than three hundred cows at the gausala.
