Chandigarh Administration, in collaboration with Yuvsatta- an NGO, celebrated Herbal Day at St Joseph’s School. Dabendra Dalai, Chief Conservator of Forests, was the guest of honour. ‘I own a herb’ pledge was taken by all students of Classes IV, V and VI. Several students participated in a plantation drive. Activities such as show and tell, standup comedy, advertisement on conservation of water and herbs were presented by young and vivacious students. A street play was enacted by students who highlighted the pivotal role of nature in our life. Meanwhile, ‘Each one, teach one, plant one’ is the theme of ‘Van Mahotsava’ at St Joseph’s School. Students of the Primary-1 Block conducted an assembly. Tiny tots recited poems on ‘Save Trees’. Teachers explained the importance of trees in our lives. Students of Class II planted saplings at the garden area on the school premises and took a pledge not to cut trees and plant saplings every year on their birthdays.

AKSIPS-65, Mohali

A mock drill was conducted at AKSIPS-65 to train the students to evacuate the building safely during an emergency or a disaster. The evacuation plan was explained thoroughly and a drill was conducted to see its effectiveness. On hearing the alarm, students from all classes started moving along with their teachers as per the floor-wise plan. Everybody gathered safely in an open ground away from the building.

MDAV School, Chandigarh

The disaster management club of MDAV, Sector 22-A, Chandigarh, organised an essay and oratorical competition on ‘Disaster Management’. The objective of the event was to promote the culture of safety and preparedness and to encourage students to present their views on how to reduce the loss of life and property during any calamity. Students from Class VIII to X participated in the event.

Tribune Model, Chandigarh

A session was organised for the students of Classes IX and X of Tribune Model School on liberal arts education by Harpreet Singh, Assistant Director, Outreach from Ashoka University, Sonipat. He sensitiSed the students about the multidisciplinary and liberal education in India. Principal Vandana Saxena, the school counsellor and teachers attended the session.

Shishu Niketan, Chandigarh

NCC cadets of Shishu Niketan Model School, Sector 22-D, Chandigarh, presented a play on martyrdom of Captain Vikram Batra to mark 20 years of Kargil War on the school premises. The play was a befitting tribute to the brave heart.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate

A ‘nukkad natak’ was performed by the Red Arts Theatre Group at Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate Public School, Sector 26. The topic was the importance of teachers in a student’s life. They performed the play with dedication and threw light on the education system. It was a satire on the unemployment prevalent among the youth.

Sri Aurobindo School, Chandigarh

The interact club of Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education, Sector 27-A, carried out a plantation drive to contribute to the green and clean environment. Students and school Chairman Arvind Mehan and Principal Garima S Bhardwaj planted saplings on the premises. They also pledged to take care of saplings.

Govt Model, Chandigarh

Krishna Eco Club of school organised a plantation drive at Government Model High School, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh. More than 100 saplings were planted. School Principal Avtar Singh thanked the chief guest and others dignitaries for gracing the occasion.  TNS
