Chandigarh, October 17

The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Welfare Association (SSATWA), Chandigarh, thanked the UT Administrator, VP Singh Badnore, for arranging one-month salary of 819 junior basic and trained graduate teachers and other 245 employees by taking loan.

The loan of Rs 4 crore has been taken from Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology (CREST) to pay salaries. Along with the SSA, the DA of guest staff has also been released.  The SSA staff had not got salary for the past two months.

Since Diwali is on October 19 and most schools have declared October 18 as local holiday, so officials have called all cluster heads and issued instructions to collect salary orders from school under it and all those salary orders shall be collected by Axis Bank on October 18.

Arvind Rana, president, SSATWA, said, “We are thankful to the UT Administrator, Adviser, Secretary Education and Director School Education as due to their intervention, hopefully teachers will get one month salary on October 18 and other month’s salary by next week. We expect Chandigarh Administration to make ensure that such a situation is not repeated in future.”

This is due to the agitation held by Joint Action Committee (JAC) on October 13 in front of the DSE Office in Sector 9, Chandigarh, and due to the repeated meeting of the JAC held with the higher officers of Education Department,” said president of the JAC Bhag Singh Kairon.—TNS
