The UT Education Department has decided to grant paid maternity leave to 26 weeks to female teachers.
As per the Education Department orders, the maternity leave will be allowed to only those female employees who have worked under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SMSA) for a period of not less than 80 days in the 12 months immediately preceding the date of her expected or actual delivery in terms of the maturity benefit.
Also, a woman who has legally adopted a child below the age of three months or a commissioning mother will be entitled to maternity benefits. Along with this, the order also says that if the nature of work allows the woman to work from home, the employer may allow her to do so after availing of maternity benefit.
