Chandigarh, June 23

Under the Smart City project, residents will get dedicated cycle tracks, a subway connecting Sector 17 with Rose Garden and a smart parking app. Administrator VP Singh Badnore will inaugurate all facilities on June 25.

The Centre has already given a sum of about Rs 300 crore for the project. Today, another Rs 74 lakh was released by the Centre as reform incentive to Chandigarh. Under the Centre’s Smart City project, new cycle tracks are being constructed at Madhya Marg, Jan Marg, Vikas Path and Purv Marg. The UT Administration is also planning to have the tracks at the Sector 36 traffic junction, including roundabouts and traffic signals. The Administrator will inaugurate the subway project and re-vitalisation of the proposed urban park at the rear of Neelam Cinema, Sector 17. The city will soon get the hi-tech parking system. Badnore will be launching a mobile app in the Sector 17 parking lot. It will provide the status of parking availability in real-time. Through the app, the people will be able to see the space available in the parking area they are visiting. There will be a central server of CCTV cameras and e-ticketing machines at the MC office from where the company staff and civic body officials will keep an eye on parking attendants.
