A local trader was robbed by an unidentified person when the victim was returning home from his grocery shop last night. This is the second such incident when a man has been attacked and robbed in the past few months. The first case occurred in November 2017, which was not solved yet.

The Friday’s incident took place at around 9.30 pm in the grain market area of the city when the unidentified accused attacked the victim, Ashok Gupta, and snatched a bag from him in which he allegedly carried Rs 5.71 lakh in cash. The victim’s house is only a few meters away from his shop and he used to return home with the cash daily and deposit the same in the bank the next day.

The Kotwali police have registered a case against the accused on the complaint of the victim. The accused attacked him with a rod and fled with his bag containing the cash.

In the previous case, an elderly man was assaulted and robbed of Rs 3.5 lakh near Modi College in the morning hours in November last year. The miscreants were captured by a CCTV camera. The victim, Dharmapal Bansal (70), who owns an agency, was on the way to deposit cash in a bank on his two-wheeler when an unidentified man attacked on his head with an iron rod. The initial reports suggest that three persons were involved in the crime.
