Having initially told the police that he was an eyewitness to the alleged murder of Akansh Sen, Gagandeep Shergill, alias Shera, took a U-turn in the court stating that he was not present at the spot when the incident took place. Sen, nephew of former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, was allegedly run over by a BMW car in Sector 9 on February 9, 2017.

In his statement recorded before the police after the incident, Shera had stated that he was present at the spot and even helped in putting an injured Sen in the car to be taken to the hospital. However, he told the court today that he had not made any such statement and the police had written the same themselves. He said he had dropped everyone outside the house and was not an eyewitness to the incident.

As reported earlier, the incident was a result of old enmity between Shera and Harmehtab Singh Rarewala, alias Farid. The latter is the only one arrested in the case and facing trial, while the other accused, Balraj Singh Randhawa, has been declared a proclaimed offender.

It all started with a trip to Manali where the duo had a tiff regarding some women that had accompanied them. Shera had reportedly blamed Farid for all “humiliation”, and thrashed him so badly that Farid had to be hospitalised for several days in Manali. Seeking to avenge the thrashing a few weeks later, Farid called Shera to his farmhouse in Landran. Farid was waiting with his aides, who thrashed Shera.

On the fateful day, Sen, Shera and Farid got together at Deep Sidhu’s place in Sector 9. Arguments between Shera and Farid resurfaced and when the matter threatened to get out of hand, Sidhu, who had even called up the Police Control Room, told all to disperse. However, they re-emerged. This time, the matter did get out of hand and culminated in the alleged murder of Sen.

Farid and Balraj had allegedly hit Sen with their BMW car and run him over. Sen had later succumbed to his injuries at the PGI and the duo, who was earlier booked for attempt to murder, was also booked for murder.
