Chandigarh, July 17

A Haryana-cadre 2006-batch IPS officer, Shashank Anand, has been appointed the Superintendent of Police (Traffic and Security), Chandigarh. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an order for his appointment.

The post  had been lying vacant since the term of SSP  (Traffic)   Maneesh Chaudhary, a 2005-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, ended on May 7, 2016. Ravi Kumar Singh is at present officiating as the SP (Traffic).

The appointment to the post  was  delayed for various reasons. The Administrator turned down the first panel of officers on the grounds that all three officers lacked the required experience for the post and they were promotee police officers.

Later, the Haryana Government sent another panel of officers in June 2016 comprising three IPS officers -- Simardeep Singh, Dr Arun Nehra and Ashwin Shenvi. The Chandigarh Administration selected Ashwin Shenvi for the post, but he withdrew his name at the last moment. Then yet another panel of three officers, including Anand, was sent by the Haryana Government to the UT Administration. The UT recommended Anand’s name to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
