The post of SDM, Fatehgarh Sahib, has become a matter of great concern for the people of subdivision as no one likes to be posted here. Whosoever is posted here gets transferred within months. In a span of five months seven SDMs have been transferred.

The present SDM of Fatehgarh Sahib, Amit Bambey, who took charge on October 23 managed to get transfer to Patiala today.

District grievances officer, Dr Sanjeev Kumar, has been given the additional charge of the SDM. Earlier, he served as the SDM from August 31 to October 22.

Sources said an open warning of MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra that he would not allow any officer, particularly SDM, Tehsildars and police officials to indulge in corrupt practices is forcing them to get transfer from Fatehgarh Sahib.

Whereas opposition leaders allege that undue interference of the MLA and his wife is forcing officers to get transfer. They have also organised protest dharnas in this regard.

The situation has come to such a point that no one is ready to serve as SDM, Fatehgarh Sahib. The annual Saheedi Jor Mela, a major event of the district, is going to commence from December 25 and the administration has to make arrangements in advance, but it appears that the state government is not sincere in this regard. All roads leading to gurdwara are in worst condition and dug up by the sewerage board. The repair and widening of main road is in progress, but the work is going on at a snail’s pace and may not be completed in time.

Residents and even Congress leaders, who are surprised over the frequent transfer of SDMs, said, “It appears that there is no government or rule of law in the state. The ruling dispensation has failed on all fronts.”
