Chandigarh, November 16

Preparations for the shooting of Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey faced difficulties at a park in Sector 22 where a cottage-like house is being set up for the movie.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) today asked the production team to remove the cottage base, which is being built by using bricks. It also asked the production staff to remove a sheet which has covered the entire shooting set.

“They have removed the covering sheet after we objected to it. We have also asked them to remove the brick base. Permission for these was not given,” said Krishan Pal Singh, Superintending Engineer, MC.

The permission for three-month shoot in the park was given by the corporation for Rs 9 lakh. Shahid will be in the city on December 2 for the shooting. He will stay for about 10 days. “On other days, we will prepare the set and take various shots of the location,” said a crew member.

Amrit Pal Singh, incharge of the production team, told Chandigarh Tribune, “We have obtained prior permission and will apply afresh on Monday to do away with the shortcomings. The shooting site was covered so that they do not face inconvenience. After we finish shoot here, we have promised the MC to leave the park in a better state that what it was earlier. In addition, the shooting here will boost tourism in the city.”

A few years ago, Hollywood director Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar winning movie ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ had to face protests in the Mani Majra market during the shooting of the film. Shahid is playing a cricketer in the movie, which is a Hindi remake of a Telugu sports drama. The movie is slated to release on August 28, 2020. The Hindi version of Jersey is being directed by Gowtam Tinnanauri, who also made the 2019 original film.
