Demanding  a fresh   survey, street vendors staged a protest against   the Municipal  Corporation, Chandigarh.  A large   number   of vendors   assembled  at Sector   45  on a call given by the   Chandigarh Ki Awaj Party.

The police  stopped them from marching towards the Raj Bhavan  under the  leadership  of  Avinash Sharma. He said that  MC had  cheated the  vendors, creating a rift betweem them and traders. Later, a delegation of the  vendors submitted  a memorandum to the UT Administrator.

In another  protest at Sector  20,   Ram Milan  Gaur, president of  the Footpath Cycle  and Rehri  Workers’  Union  announced that  the   vendors would  gheroa  the MC office, if the authorities failed to initiate a fresh survey.

Addressing the gathering, Gaur said the own vending committee was illegal as it lacked representatives   from street    vendors   .He  said that the  space allotted  to the  vendors  are   not sufficient  and the town vending  Committee  was formed   without their  consultation. He said there  were many   irregularities  in the   survey   conducted  by the agency,   which needed probe.
