Patiala, August 23

Security has been befittingly beefed up and patrolling sufficiently enhanced to ensure the safety of girl students and women in general on the Punjabi University campus.

Vice-Chancellor Prof BS Ghuman today took along security officer Capt Gurtej Singh around the campus to scrutinise the security arrangements after taking the round of the campus last evening while ‘masquerading’ as a common man. He advised the latter to take special steps to warrant maximum security, especially along those routes which were most frequented by the girl students, leaving no chance for them to complain.

They identified and earmarked 15 key strategic points for deployment of maximum security on various routes. The security officer apprised the Vice-Chancellor that these routes were under e-surveillance with around 50 locations covered by the CCTV cameras. Professor Ghuman also inspected the ‘Women Helpline Mobile Patrol’ positioned on the campus.

He ordered Capt Gurtej for intensifying and tightening the securing arrangements during evenings and peak hours that were more hostile to security.

The VC also issued elaborate directions to the SDO (Horticulture) for planting more saplings, medicinal plants, flower-borne trees, especially dotting the main gate and roads leading visitors on the campus with a view to improving the landscape of the university giving out a picturesque view. The in-charge of the electrical wing and the officer in-charge, campus upkeep, were ordered to relaying of lazily hanging cables and wires and improving the lighting arrangements on all roads on the campus.
