Chandigarh: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will soon seal some of the entry points at the city railway station. The will be done to strengthen the security around it. To discuss the issue, Sanjay Kishore, IG, RPF, Northern Railway, conducted a security check at the railway station. He held a meeting with local railway officials to discuss ways of plugging alternative entry points leading to the railway station. Later during the day, Kishore held a state-level meeting on railway security with the DGP, Punjab. TNS 

3-year jail to 7 in fraud case 

Mohali: A local court on Thursday awarded three-year jail and Rs 2,000 fine each to seven persons, including former president of the Municipal Council, Banur, and a woman in a property fraud case. Those convicted by the court are Harbans Lal, former president of the MC, Rajbir Kaur, Baldev Raj, Amandeep Singh, Maninder Singh, Bant Singh and Surjit Singh. According to sources, Harbans Lal and other accused had altered records relating to five-bigha land belonging to the Health Department and had got it registered in their favour. TNS

Sweets, bakery items destroyed

Chandigarh: A team under the supervision of Arjun Sharma, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (East), Chandigarh, along with food safety and veterinary officers inspected food vendors and manufacturing units at Hallo Majra. They penalised two sweets manufacturing units and two meat shops for operating in unhygienic condition. Around 1.5 quintal of sweets, bakery items were destroyed under the Epidemic Act. TNS    

Judicial custody for rape accused

Chandigarh: A local court has sent an accused in the rape case of a 13-year-old girl in Mani Majra to judicial custody. The uncle had been raping the girl for over four months. The Class VII student had narrated her ordeal to her mother and later to childline officials. The accused was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the POCSO Act. Woman ends her life

Panchkula: A 30-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Pinjore here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Karuna (30). She was residing in a house adjoining a private hospital on the Pinjore-Nalagarh road. Karuna was married to Vikram, a resident of Pinjore, around six years ago. On Thursday morning, her husband had gone to his shop. When he returned in the afternoon, he found his wife hanging from a ceiling fan. The police said they have kept the body at the Kalka hospital. No suicide note was recovered from the house, said the police. TNS
