Chandigarh, February 21

The Municipal Corporation has started the work to dismantle another roundabout in the city.

The small rotary on the road separating Sector 32 and 33 is all set to be razed to pave way for an intersection with traffic lights. The work for removing the rotary has been stopped temporarily on the direction of MC Commissioner MC Jitender Yadav, who had asked officials to study if installation of traffic lights on the existing rotary could serve the purpose. However, sources in the engineering department said due to heavy traffic, the only option was to dismantle the rotary.

The survey conducted by the traffic police found huge rush around the rotary during morning and evening hours and recommended installation of traffic lights to streamline the traffic.

Several small roundabouts in the city have been razed for smooth flow of traffic. Not a long time ago, rotaries on the road separating Sectors 33 and 34, and Sectors 43 and 44 were dismantled and traffic lights were installed at the intersections. — TNS
