Chandigarh, December 9

The internal roads of the Sector 26 fruit and vegetable market will soon get a new look as the market committee has started the re-carpeting work.

Nazuk Kumar, administrator of the committee, said the roads were being re-carpeted and the area would be beautified soon. Residents and traders were facing difficulties due to the dilapidated condition of roads in the market.

The committee has decided to spend around Rs 40 lakh on the re-carpeting of internal roads. Ram Karan Gupta, president of the Grain Market Association, hailed the move and said the condition of roads in front of onion and potato auction platform was worst where a large number of vehicles stop daily for loading and unloading of goods.

The roads were not repaired for years for the want of funds. Mohit Sood, general secretary of the association, said thousands of commuters came here to buy vegetables daily and several accidents took place here due to potholes.

He said due to the bad condition of roads, the area did not appear to be a part of the Smart City. — TNS
