Season’s first fog engulfs tricity

The tricity was engulfed by dense fog, the season’s first, last night and early this morning, paralysing train services and affecting vehicular traffic. Low visibility due to the fog resulted in several minor road mishaps.

At least 12 trains were delayed by several hours. The Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express was delayed by 10 hours and 42 minutes. It was scheduled to arrive at 1.30 pm, but reached late at night.

Similarly, the Madurai-Chandigarh train was late by six hours and 30 minutes. It was scheduled to arrive at 4.25 am  but reached at 10.55 am.

The Barmer-Kalka Express got late by three hours and 35 minutes. Scheduled to arrive at 5.10 am, the train reached at 8.45 am. The Ajmer-Chandigarh Express, which was scheduled to arrive at 6.45 am, reached at 8.07 am.

The foggy weather hit inter-city express trains as well. The Amritsar-Chandigarh train arrived at 10.20 am, whereas it was scheduled to arrive at 9.25 am. The Ambala-Chandigarh train was delayed by two hours.  The Lucknow-Chandigarh Express reached the station at 1.12 pm, three hours behind schedule. The Kerala Sampark Kranti Express arrived one hour and 35 minutes late. Three others trains, including the Himalayan Queen, arrived late by over an hour. — TNS
