Kharar, April 6

Kharar MLA Kanwar Sandhu demanded a high-level inquiry into the alleged patronage by certain influential persons to SK Hospital, Kharar, which had been carrying out sex determination tests illegally. He demanded that the hospital be sealed immediately.

Sandhu met Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister  Brahm Mohindra in Chandigarh on Thursday and explained to him how the hospital had been carrying out illegal activities for the past many years despite complaints. The minister ordered health officials to take prompt action against the hospital.

On Thursday, three persons were arrested after the hospital was raided by a medical team from Ambala in Haryana.  Those three arrested included a doctor.

Sandhu informed the minister as to how a team of the SMO, Kharar, which had gone to check the hospital on November 28 last year was held hostage by the hospital staff for many hours. He had informed the then Director, Health Services, and yet no action was taken. “It is shameful that a team from Haryana had to come and unearth the blatant illegality in our backyard,” Sandhu said in a letter to the minister.
