Chandigarh, August 14

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes today issued a reminder addressed to PU VC Prof Raj Kumar, seeking a reply regarding the representation submitted by the Ambedkar Students’ Association (ASA) alleging violation of the reservation policy by the university.

The association had raised concerns over the “violation” of the reservation policy at the Department of Laws. The Vice-Chancellor had constituted committed under the DUI. The committee found the irregularities in the merit list for admission to the LLB and sent recommendations to the department for revising the list, but the department had denied doing so. On August 4, the ASA staged a protest outside the VC office in this regard. The PU VC again constituted a panel which decided to consider legal opinion on the matter.

The ASA stated: “It is shameful that the PU VC is against SC/ST/OBC students and did nothing fruitful for their welfare.” — TNS
