Sanjay scores 5 as city boys drub Bhopal

CHANDIGARH:Sanjay scored five goals as Chandigarh demolished Hockey Bhopal 12-2 in the final round of the Pool C in the 7th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Men) A Division in Bengaluru today.

Sanjay scored five goals as Chandigarh demolished Hockey Bhopal 12-2 in the final round of the Pool C in the 7th Sub Junior National Hockey Championship 2017 (Men) A Division in Bengaluru today.  

Sanjay scored his first goal in the 11th minute of the match and added four more goals to his tally — 28th, 29th, 43rd and 56th minute — to help his side to a convincing victory. 

Arshdeep Singh also scored a brace (54th, 69th) for Hockey Chandigarh.

For Hockey Bhopal, Sameer Ahmed struck in the 19th and 37th minute of the match. 

Patiala beat Maharashtra 

In another Pool C encounter, Hockey Patiala humbled Hockey Maharashtra 4-1. 

Manpreet Singh scored a brace (4th, 57th), while Bablu Singh (58th) and Rohit Rana (61st) added a goal each to the tally. 

Aamid Khan Pathan scored the solitary goal for Maharashtra in the 10th minute of the game.

Bihar hold Manipur

Manipur Hockey, meanwhile, played a 2-2 draw with Hockey Bihar in a Pool B match. Manipur took the lead in the 26th minute, after Ibungo Singh Konjengbam scored from the spot. 

The side managed to hold on to the lead in the first half, but Hockey Bihar drew parity after the break as Vaibhav Mishra sounded the wooden plank in the 42nd minute of the game. 

Amarjit Singh Waribam put Manipur in lead again in the 55th minute with a well struck goal. However, a resilient Bihar side fought back to level the scores 11 minutes later through Martin Tuti to split the points.

UP drub Tami Nadu

Buoyed by Uttam Singh’s hat-trick, Uttar Pradesh Hockey drubbed Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 10-0 in another Pool B match today.

In a display of attacking hockey, UP boys led by Uttam Singh (22nd, 47th, 70th) kept the opposition under pump all the time.

Akhtar Ali (35th, 41st) and Sahabaz Khan (16th, 69th) scored a brace each to ensure three points for the side.

Jharkhand in command

In the last match of the day, Hockey Jharkhand humbled Chhattisgarh Hockey 5-0 in a Pool D encounter. 

Jharkhand boys took an early lead as Ranjan Toppo scored in the 7th minute of the match. From there on, they were in cruise control, constantly probing and hassling Chhattisgarh’s defence. 

The side consolidated its position with a twin strike from Anurud Bhengra (42nd, 45th) and a goal each by Denis Kerketta (43rd) and Joseph Kongari (59th).
