Chandigarh: AP Saksena has been elected as the president of the Chandigarh Chess Association (CCA) for the next three years. The elections were held following a general body meeting of the association at the Chandigarh Press Club here on Sunday. Naveen Bansal and Abhinanadan Vohra are the new vice-presidents, while Vipnesh Bhardwaj will be the honorary secretary of the association. Vipan Negi will shoulder the responsibility treasurer. Sanjeev Biswas and Swapan Kumar were elected as joint secretaries. The other office bearers of the associations include Ashish Goyal, Pushpender Gusain, Varinder Kumar and Dhruv Chakrobarty. TNS 

Tennis meet from Sept 1

Chandigarh: The Sunrise Tennis Academy will organise the two-day Open Tennis Tournament for boys and girls from September 1 at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here. The championship will be held in U- 0, U-12, U-14 and U-16 categories in both boys’ and girls’ categories, the organisers said here on Monday. The interested players can register for the event till 5.30 pm on August 31, the organisers added. TNS 

JLWCC beat NCC by 35 runs

Chandigarh: An all-round effort helped Junior Livewire Coaching Centre (JLWCC) register a 35-run win over Namaste Chandigarh Complex (NCC) in a rain-truncated match at Divya Public School, Sector 44, here. Put into bat, JLWCC scored 140/7 after the match was reduced to 15 overs a side due to rain. Aarush Sharma made 45 runs, while Pankaj hammered an unbeaten 42. Navjot Singh remained not out on 20. For the bowling side, Bhupesh (2/15), Vineet Kumar (2/19) and Nishant Syalvania (2/21) claimed two wickets each. Needing 141 runs for victory, NCC boys were all out for 105 runs 14.4 overs after Jaspal Singh (2/11), Shahid Ahmed (2/12) and Anirudh (2/15) shared six wickets between them. For NCC, Gulshan Kumar made 21 runs, while Rishi Arora returned undefeated on 20. TNS
