The arrest of Gurmeet Singh by the Sohana police today in abetment to suicide case of a resident of Dhirpur village has taken a political turn.
The Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) leaders alleged that the police had registered a false case on the complaint of deceased’s son Amandeep Singh.
The SAD leaders said the case had been reopened under the pressure of Cabinet Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.
The Akali Dal district president NK Sharma, Assembly In-charge TPS Sidhu, Paramjit Kaur Landran and Simranjit Singh Chandumajra had submitted a memorandum to Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police for releasing Gurmeet.
They said if Gurmeet would not be released within 24 hours, they would be forced to protest.
Manphool Singh, Station House Officer at the Sohana Police station, said that the high court had ordered to take action in the case after holding forensic test of the suicide note.
He said Amandeep had submitted documents written by his father which were sent to the forensic lab, along with the suicide note.
He said that a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Gurmeet Singh.
It is pertinent to mention that Amandeep had filed a complaint to the Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police in September 2015 and alleged that Gurmeet had cheated his father Balwinder Singh of Rs 70 lakh, grabbed the land and threatenend to eliminate him.
He said as a result, his father committed suicide on May 1, 2015.
