Rural out-vote urbanites in Dera Bassi

Rural voters beat their urban counterparts in the Dera Bassi Assembly segment. Around 69 per cent polling was reported from the segment falling under the Patiala parliamentary constituency yesterday.

Rural areas in Dera Bassi recorded the highest poll percentage at 75, while the urban segment witnessed 66 per cent voter turnout.

Moreover, men outnumbered their women counterparts in casting their votes. The poll percentage of men voters was 77, while that of women voters was 72.

As per the record, in rural areas of the total 47,540 men voters, only 36,804 exercised their franchise, whereas of the total 41,612 women voters, only 29,985 cast their votes.

The turnout in urban areas was much lower than in rural areas of the Dera Bassi segment. Urban voters did not show much enthusiasm and the voter turnout was just 66 per cent.

In urban areas, of the total 88,498 men voters, only 59,496 cast their ballot. Similarly, of the total 80,954 women voters, 52,241 exercised their franchise.

Zirakpur witnesses 64% voting

Zirakpur witnessed 64 per cent voting in which of the total 52,838 men voters, only 34,320 cast their votes, whereas of the total 48,959 women voters, 30,726 cast their votes.

68% turnout in Dera Bassi

In Dera Bassi alone, only 68 per cent voting was witnessed. Of the total 21,079 men voters, 14,584 cast their votes, while of the total 19,256 women voters, 12,878 exercised their franchise on the polling day in Dera Bassi.

The Dera Bassi segment recorded 69 per cent voter turnout against the 72.64 per cent registered during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Of the 2,58,622 voters, only 1,78,526 voters, including 82,226 women and 96,300 men, cast their votes yesterday. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Lalru records 70% polling

  • The poll percentage of 70 in Lalru was higher as compared with Zirakpur and Dera Bassi 
  • As per the record, in Lalru, of the total 14,581 men voters, only 10,592 exercised their franchise on the polling day, whereas of the total 12,739 women voters, 8,637 cast their votes.
