Chandigarh, February 18

Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) drubbed Hockey Madhya Pradesh 5-0 to win their sixth straight Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2019 (A Division) title, in Hisar, Haryana, on Monday.

Neha (12th, 16th) and Navneet Kaur (25th, 28th) scored a brace each while Vandana Katariya (10th) struck once for the defending champions.

Hockey Haryana, meanwhile, overcame Hockey Maharashtra 3-2 in the bronze medal match.

RSPB scored their first goal in the 10th minute through Vandana. Couple of minutes later, Neha scored off a penalty corner to make it 2-0 for the side.

Madhya Pradesh found it difficult to defend against a rampaging RSPB side and ended up conceding a third when Neha again scored off a penalty corner in the 16th minute.

Madhya Pradesh tried to find their feet, but Navneet Kaur came up with two more goals in the 25th and 28th minutes to shut the doors on them.

Haryana girls finish third

In the bronze medal match, it was Haryana who finished third for a second year in running. The team defeated Hockey Maharashtra 3-2.

Haryana scored the first goal through Sonika in the 6th minute, but Hockey Maharashtra cancelled out the lead with H Lalruatfeli’s strike in the 13th minute.

Haryana regained lead through Rani Vandana in the 39th minute, but Lalruatfeli was once again able to restore the parity for her side.

However, Deepika’s strike in the 49th minute helped Haryana seal the match 3-2 and clinch the bronze medal.
