Financial assistance worth Rs 1.62 crore has been distributed among 773 beneficiaries in Mohali district under the Ashirwad Scheme being run by the Punjab Government, here.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra said the scheme was being proven beneficial for the general public, especially the needy and poor strata.

“Under the scheme, the government provides Rs 21,000 for marriage of girl child. The amount proves beneficial at the time of need,” said Sapra.

She said earlier the financial assistance being provided under the scheme was Rs 15,000, but in July 2017 the amount was increased to Rs 21,000.

“From April 2018 to December 2018, a total amount of Rs 1.62 crore has been distributed among as many as 773 eligible beneficiaries in the district. The amount being provided under the scheme is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries,” said the Deputy Commissioner.

To get the amount under the scheme, the person should be a resident of Punjab and her daughter should be above 18 years. The application for seeking financial assistance should be submitted within 30 days prior or post marriage. The benefit thus provided is limited to two girl children.

District Welfare Officer Sukh Sagar Singh said: “Awareness camps are being organised by the department in this regard, where besides generating awareness about welfare schemes, applications are also received for further consideration”. He appealed to the eligible beneficiaries to obtain maximum benefits of welfare schemes.
