Rs 4 crore grant for 8 institutes released

Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) has released the grant amounting Rs 4 crore under the Infrastructure Head as second installment to the tune of Rs 50 lakh each for the Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42; Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 11; Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46; Government Home Science College, Sector 10; MCM College for Women, Sector 36; Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45; DAV College, Sector 10; and Regional Institute of English, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

The grant has been released on the basis of percentage utilisation of earlier grant received from the MHRD under the said head of RUSA. The grant has not been released by the MHRD to Sri Guru Gobind Singh, Sector 26; and Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, for not achieving the desired target of percentage utilisation of earlier received infrastructure grant.

Earlier, the Project Approval Board (PAB) of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) of the MHRD had accorded approval for the total amount of Rs 20 crore under the Infrastructure Grant to city colleges.

Rakesh Kumar Popli, State Project Director (RUSA)-cum- Director Higher Education, Chandigarh, said this grant would provide new dimension in strengthening of infrastructure resources in the existing colleges and helps in providing quality and branding in higher education in the UT, Chandigarh.

Senator, Panjab University, Dalip Kumar elaborated that the infrastructure grants will be utilised for new constructions like establishment of new laboratories for existing programmes and new programmes both at the level of PG and UG, new classrooms and support units or toilets and establishment of computer centre. He added that it would also be used for renovation like modernisation and strengthening of laboratories or sports facilities, improvement of supporting department, hostel, strengthening of libraries and access to knowledge resource and procurement of furniture and fixtures.
