Chandigarh, December 5

Unidentified miscreants stole cash and valuables from two cars parked in Sector 22 after smashing their windowpanes on the intervening night of December 4 and 5. The incident was caught on a CCTV camera installed outside a house.

Vijay Pratap Singh, who owns an i10 car, stated that unknown persons stole Rs 35,000 and documents from his car. “The suspects broke the side glass of the car through which they managed to open the door and steal the cash,” he said.

They also stole some documents from a Honda City car parked next to it. Vijay said one of his neighbours, who was returning from a party, saw the miscreants near his car following which he got suspicious and questioned them.

However, by the time he parked his car, they had escaped from the spot. It was around 2.15 am when the incident took place. The car owners, however, came to know about the incident in the morning following which the police were informed. An investigation has been initiated into the matter and the police are analysing the CCTV footage to get some clues. Incidents of valuables being stolen from cars parked in Sector 22 have been reported earlier as well. In one such incident, unidentified miscreants made off with the body cover and valuables from a Mercedes car parked outside the owner’s house in Sector 22 on the intervening night of October 22 and 23.

Pankaj, who owns the Mercedes, had complained that the suspects arrived in a car and stole the body cover of his car and escaped from the spot. Around 30 minutes later, one of the suspects returned and managed to open the car and stole money and valuables lying in it. —TNS
