Rohan sets up final date with Sarthak

CHANDIGARH:Rohan Phulle registered a 6-3 6-3 win over Aditya Chauhan to set up the title clash with Sarthak Gandhi in the boys’ U-18 category in the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship at Zirakpur on Thursday.

Rohan Phulle registered a 6-3 6-3 win over Aditya Chauhan to set up the title clash with Sarthak Gandhi in the boys’ U-18 category in the Roots-AITA National Ranking Championship at Zirakpur on Thursday.   

Gandhi rallied from a set down to prevail over Pranay Chaudhary in the semifinals. He lost the opening set 3-6, but came back strongly to win the next two sets 6-4 6-3 to stay in contention for the title.

In the boys’ U-16 semifinals, Aryan Thakur downed Aditya Chauhan 6-4 6-1, while Lakshya Gupta dismissed Harmanjit Singh 6-0 6-1.  

Priyal in final

Priyal Chaudhary came from behind to beat Harleen Kaur in the girls’ U-16 semifinals. Priyal lost the first set 4-6, but restored the parity with a 6-3 win in the second set. She then edged out Harleen with a 6-3 win in the decider. 

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Priyal ousted Yashika Sharma 6-3 6-0, while Harleen Kaur drubbed Vishita 6-0 6-1. Vanya Arora dispatched Catherine Bangu 6-1 6-1. 

Jaskirat Kaur struggled against Omisha before she moved into the last-four. Jaskirat lost the opening set 6-7(2), but held her nerve to win the next two sets 6-1 10-5. 

Sriwalli advances 

In the girls’ U-18 category, Sriwalli moved into the final after beating Lavanya Sabarwal 6-4 6-3 in the semis.  

In the quarterfinals, Sriwalli tamed Aditi Kadian 6-2 6-2, while Lavanya humbled Priyal Chaudhary 6-3 7-6(4). Jaskirat overcame Vishita 6-4 5-7 10-4 to seal a spot in the semifinals. Harleen received a walkover against Catherine Bangu.
