Nabha, April 16

Residents of more than 12 villages are irked due to the dilapidated condition of the road that connects Nabha with Sangrur. The road was constructed under the Prime Minister Garm Sadak Yojana in 2015.

Commuters face a tough time due to pot holes on the entire stretch, especially near Chhinttawala village. The residents accused the contractor of not using the quality material for constructing the road. They said the road was not constructed under the supervision of experts of the Public Works Department.

Nishan Singh, a resident of Kakrala village, said accidents were reported on the road daily. He said the state government charged taxes during the registration of vehicles, but it was not paying any attention to this grave problem.

Balkar Singh Raisal, Congress’s general secretary (Rural), said they had taken up the matter with Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot about two months ago, but nothing had been done so far. He said the contractor had failed to maintain the road, resulting in pot holes at various places.

Balkesh Sharma, Executive Engineer, PWD, said the road had to be maintained by the contractor, but as the government had directed the department not to add any financial burden during two financial years — 2016-17 and 17-18, the repair work could not be carried out, leading to the pathetic condition of the road.

He said now, the department had sent a detailed report on the project worth Rs 12 lakh to the state government for the repair of the road.
