Residents of Sadhu Nagar in Dera Bassi are at the receiving end as they have been struggling to get water for basic household chores and even for drinking.

The residents rued that there was no water supply in their area for the past three days. Residents of Ward No 5, Sadhu Nagar, Dera Bassi, on Wednesday protested against the shortage of potable water.

They announced to intensify the agitation if the authorities concerned failed to solve their problem.

Residents, along with women, carrying empty utensils staged a protest and raised slogans against the shortage of drinking water in their ward. They also alleged that despite repeated complaints, no efforts were made to streamline the supply of drinking water. The lack of water supply has been causing inconvenience to the residents, forcing them to depend on water tankers completely.

“There has been no proper water supply in the area for a month and for the past three days there is no water supply all together that has made life difficult for us due to scorching heat. It is difficult for us to cater to our daily needs in the absence of proper water supply,” rued Monika, a resident.

The residents alleged that they have been constantly meeting the municipal authorities and demanding them to streamline the supply, but nothing has been done.

The residents said the officers concerned are hardly bothering about their problem.

However the matter was brought to the knowledge of the Municipal Council, Dera Bassi, which assured that the problem will be solved soon.
