Chandigarh, October 14

Residents of Sector 19 have yet again complained about nuisance outside Prachin Shiv-Kali-Shani Mandir. They said beggars and hermits stay outside the temple, defecate in the open. They sit on the road and cause traffic snarls and the problem is severe on Saturdays and Shivratris.

In April 2013, the police had asked hermits to leave the place following complaints that they puffed chillam. As per the then area councillor Mukesh Bassi, residents, especially women and senior citizens, had approached him seeking action against the hermits. Police officers warned them against puffing chillam.

As of today, around 30 hermits and beggars were seen sitting around the temple in the evening hours. They also objected when they were being photographed. While beggars were seen running on the road outside the temple causing traffic congestion, it can also lead to accidents as it is busy junction where the shrine is situated.
