Chandigarh, February 8

To fill vacancies at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), the UT Education Department has called upon 41 teachers from Punjab for an interview.

As many as six posts of the school-cadre, which were lying vacant in the SCERT for a long time, will be filled by the deputation of teachers from Punjab. The posts will include three trained graduate teachers (TGT) of science (medical), science (non-medical), English, and three postgraduate teachers (PGTs) of physics, mathematics and biology.

The candidates are required to report to the SCERT on February 12 and 13 for an interaction. A proposal for the creation of additional 23 posts of college cadre also stands pending with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

According to the Centre, the requisite number of staff of the college cadre at SCERTs in UTs should be 30. However, there are only 19 faculty members (three posts of college cadre and 16 posts of school cadre, which is uncalled for) available at the SCERT, Chandigarh.

Against 30 posts, there are only seven sanctioned posts of college cadre with the SCERT.

Apart from in-service, pre-service training to teachers, the UT SCERT is also running a diploma in elementary education (D.El.Ed) recognised by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), which is part of the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET). As per the NCTE norms, there should be 15 teachers for the course.
