Chandigarh, January 16

Kavita Jain, Minister for Women and Child Development, said sex ratio in Haryana had shown a remarkable improvement of 929/1,000 from 830/1,000 because of a holistic approach adopted by the Women and Child Development Department to check decreasing ratio of girl child.

The Minister stated this while addressing participants at the orientation workshop on “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign organised at Panjab University here today. The workshop was organised by the Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The Minister said drama, theatre and cultural troupes had a significant role play in promoting the campaign at the grassroots level.

She said the ambitious “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from Panipat, Haryana, on January 22, 2015, is aimed at survival and security of the girl child. This programme was implemented in a mission mode in Haryana to provide a respectable status to the women, especially girls, in society.

She said today Haryana had become a forerunner in the field of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” as it bagged four important awards at the national level, which would be awarded to the state on Girl Child Day this month.
