Rehan to fight Manish for title

Rehan Singh of Maharashtra will take on Uttar Pradesh’s Manish Rathore in the men’s 46kg final on the concluding day of the 2nd Junior Boxing Championship at Chandigarh University, Gharuan, here, on Tuesday. 

In the semifinals today, Rehan knocked out Madhya Pradesh’s Ruchir 5-0, while Rathore overcame Punjab’s Vikas Thakur 3-2 in a closely contested match. 

In the 48kg category, Bishwamitra of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) reached the final after outpunching Himachal Pradesh’s Abhinav 5-0 in the semis. 

In the final, Bishwamitra will lock horns with Haryana’s Sachin who defeated N Manipur’s Priyobatra in a lop-sided contest.

S Victor of SSCB, meanwhile, humbled Maharashtra’s Aman Yadav 4-1 in the men’s 50kg semifinal contest.  

Kuldeep Singh of Punjab brought some good news for the region by registering a 3-2 win over Uttar Pradesh’s Javad in the other semifinal. 

Another Punjab pugilist, Kuljit, overcame Haryana’s Ankit 3-2 in the 52kg semifinal bout. In the final, Kuljit will face SSCB’s A Naoba, who drubbed Himachal Pradesh’s Navraj 5-0. 

In the men’s 54kg category, Yaithaba of SSCB knocked out Madhya Pradesh’s Nikhil 5-0, while Punjab’s Abhinash overcame Lallawmawma of Mizoram 3-2. 

Manipur’s L Rabichandra secured a place in the 57kg final after beating Delhi’s Rinku 5-0. Th Lakhmani of SSCB registered an identical win over Haryana’s Deepak in the other semifinal. 

Jaspreet Singh of Punjab ousted Assam’s Imdad in the only semifinal contest held in the men’s 60kg category. 

Ekta eases into final  

In the women’s 48kg category, Punjab’s Ekta Saroj outwitted Haryana’s Jaishree 5-0 to set up the summit clash with Madhya Pradesh’s Aayushi, who survived Uttar Pradesh’s Aanchal 3-2. 

Another Punjab girl, Komal, defeated N Bidyapati Devi of Mizoram 4-1 in the 50kg semifinals and will play Karnataka’s Anju Devi for the title. Anju tamed Kerala’s Devika 5-0 on Monday. 

Sandeep Kaur of Punjab, meanwhile, surprised everyone with a convincing 5-0 win over Mudrika Khushi of Uttarakhand in 52kg semifinal contest. 

Uttar Pradesh’s Ragini ousted Assam’s Priyanka 5-0 in the women’s 46kg semifinal contest and will fight Haryana’s Rjani for the gold on Tuesday. Rjani blanked Manipur’s O Pinky 5-0. 

In the 54kg semifinals, Haryana’s Poonam overcame Ruthi of Mizoram 3-2, while Manipur’s Athithro outplayed local contender Neha 4-0.

Rajasthan’s Arshi defeated Kavya of Andhra Pradesh 5-0 in the 57kg semifinals. She will be up against Manipur’s H Ambeshori in the final. 

Ambeshori survived 3-2 against Himachal Pradesh’s Deepika in the semifinals.
