Chandigarh, December 7

On the persistent demand of students for more reading space, an extension — Guru Teg Bahadur Hall — to the reading hall of AC Joshi Library was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar at Guru Teg Bahadur Bhawan, Panjab University, on Friday.

The reading hall in AC Joshi Library accommodates around 500 students. This additional space will accommodate 150 more and will remain open from 10 am to 6 pm on all weekdays.

However, Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) president Kanupriya protested on Friday evening over not keeping the reading hall at open during night for students.

Meanwhile, Panjab University authorities described opening of the facility as agreeing to the long-pending demand of students.

"It was meant to open for students throughout the night. Now, they are telling us that it will close at 6 pm. It is unacceptable," said Kanupriya.
