The University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Rayat Bahra University organised a rally to create awareness about the ill-effects of burning paddy here on Sunday.
The rally, which began from the university campus and ended at Sahauran village, was taken out under the supervision of Registrar OP Middha, officiating Dean Shoaib Ahmad and head of the pharmacology department, Gurfateh Singh.
More than 120 students participated in the rally. Students also held discussions with residents of Sahauran village and made them aware of the adverse effects of stubble burning on health.
The students also explained to the villagers the measures that the Punjab Government had taken to provide subsidised farm equipment and agro-machinery for in-situ management of paddy straw.
Under the programme, the agriculture department has, so far, distributed 2,149 rotavators, 2,174 happy seeders, 192 paddy chopper combo, 1,047 paddy straw mulcher, 1,052 MB plough and 1,148 zero till drill machines to prevent stubble burning.
