Mohali, October 8

Mohali witnessed peaceful Dasehra celebrations, with minor traffic chaos at a few places today.

The highlight of the celebrations this year was flying of a giant kite at one of the venues for more than three hours.

Effigies were put up at six places, which attracted a large number of people. The major site for celebrations in the township was an open ground in Phase 8 near the YPS Chowk. According to Madhu Bhushan, president of the Dasehra Committee, Mohali, more than one lakh persons turned up at the venue. The effigy of Ravana erected in the township was around 65-feet tall. Besides Ravana, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad, an effigy of terrorism was also burnt.

Bhushan said visitors to the Phase 8 venue, especially children, enjoyed kite flying. The kite was 21-feet long and it stayed aloft from 3 pm to 6 pm.

The District Administration had made elaborate security and traffic arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the celebrations. However, a few instances of traffic chaos were reported as people parked their vehicles on roads.
