The PGIMER has won a Rs 1.5-crore under the Kayakalp programme for maintaining cleanliness and infection control. The AIIMS, New Delhi, has won the first prize of Rs 3 crore followed by the PGI. Medical Superintendent AK Gupta said they had received the money.
Last year, the PGI had stood third in the cleanliness rating. The honour comes at a time when the institute is celebrating the Swachh Pakhwada from April 1 to 15.
A PGI official said the premier medical institute lost the top spot due to unhygienic toilets. Urinals, both in out patient department (OPD) and Nehru Hospital are stinking.
Water pipes of toilets area broken at many places and soap has become a rare commodity. If the hospital was in a deplorable condition, then the condition of the residential area was no batter.
