Rajangad Bawa claimed a five-wicket haul to leave Mizoram trailing by 642 runs on the second day of the Cooch Behar Trophy, at JU Second Campus (Kolkata), today.

A day after C Dhindsa (253) and Surya Yadav (153) stole the show, Bawa came up with a magical figure of 5/12 to pack off Mizoram for 58.

Defending a mammoth score of 700 runs, city boys started brilliantly as Bawa claimed his first wicket of the day when he accounted for Sahil Sharma (9). Sehbaaz Singh doubled the joy as he claimed two back to back wickets- Thankhuma (2) and Kima (0) - to reduce Mizoram to 27/3.

Aurka Das (15), the highest run-getter for Mizoram, was the next to go as he was claimed by Amit Shukla.

Bawa further embellished his performance as he claimed Sahil Reza (4), Priyansh (0) and K Vanrotlinga (4) to punish Mizoram at 42/7. Zualtea (4) became the fifth victim of Bawa, while Yuvraj Choudhary claimed Gilbert (0) and Nunfela (2) to render the side to the pavilion at 58. Choudhary (2/13), Sehbaaz (2/9) and Shukla (1/5) were the other main wicket takers for the side.

Earlier, resuming from their overnight total of 464/2, city lads posted 700/9.

Dhindsa added 28 more runs to his overnight best before falling prey to Reza. He posted 253 runs off 274 balls, studded with 34 boundaries and one six. Reza also claimed skipper Yadav for 157 off 239 balls, with 20 boundaries. Akshit Rana (87 off 80 balls) and Choudhary (53 off 63 balls) pushed the total further to 700, before Yadav declared the innings.

Reza claimed 4/102, while Priyansh (2/145) was the other main wicket taker. Gilbert and Vanrotlings also claimed one wicket each for the bowling side.
