Patiala, October 11

Rain and hailstorm accompanied by strong winds ravaged crops in over a dozen villages in Ghanaur, Rajpura and nearby areas here on Wednesday night.

Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit met farmers at various villages, including Sahera village, and ordered special ‘girdawari’ to assess crop loss. Rajpura SDM Shiv Kumar visited Takhtumajra, Aakad, Aakdi, Gopalpur, Mandwal and Harpalpur villages to take stock of the situation.

Sources said crops in over 1,700 acres of land were destroyed in the region. MLA Madan Lal Jalalpur assured support from the state government to all farmers in the region.

Kumar Amit said, “We have ordered special ‘girdawari’ to assess crop loss. We have also deputed patwaris, who will prepare and submit a report of losses incurred by the farmers. The report will then be sent to the state government.” — TNS
