Melody, diction and rhythm of Urdu poetry, weaved in musical patterns, came alive as renowned “qawwali queen” Chanchal Bharti, along with nine artistes, performed during the second day of the ongoing ‘Qawwali Mahotsava’ at Tagore Theatre here on Sunday.

Amid applause, Chanchal Bharti and her troupe commenced with devotional composition ‘Tera jalwa hai har su, Allah hu’. The spiritual sentiment melted into love and affection in the next qawwali ‘Ye jalwa yaar ka hai’ as the troupe captivated the audience. Chanchal Bharti, while explaining the meaning of Urdu phrases, established an instant rapport with the audience. Chanchal got virtually lost in scintillating reverie while rendering Hazrat Amir Khusro’s ‘Bahut kathin hai dagar panghat ki’. After another ghazal ‘hum bhi yun zindagi bitayenge’ by Shaan Sabri, the audience was treated to the concluding spell of ‘Qawwali muqabla’ between Chanchal Bharti and young singer Shaan Sabri.
