PUTA says no to wearing ID cards

CHANDIGARH: The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) Executive Committee has resolved that the university authorities must withdraw the circular asking teachers to wear identity cards.

The Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) Executive Committee has resolved that the university authorities must withdraw the circular asking teachers to wear identity cards.

The matter was discussed during a meeting of the committee on Friday.

“It was resolved that the authorities will be requested to withdraw the circular asking the faculty and chairpersons to wear their identity cards,” said the minutes of the executive committee meeting.

It was also resolved that the Teachers’ Welfare Scheme would be put in place and Rs 1,500 would be deducted from the PPF account of every teacher. “A sufficient fund should be created and this could be used in case any casualty occurs with any faculty member. It was decided to get the same ratified at the forthcoming General Body Meeting (GBM),” said the minutes.

The association expressed gratitude to the UGC, Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar and Prof AK Bhandari for their support in getting the grant for PhD increments.

The PUTA Executive also expressed appreciation for PUTA president Prof Rajesh Gill for her persistent efforts in helping teachers get their due.

The next GBM of PUTA is scheduled for December 18.
