Chandigarh, May  18

Finding it difficult to  intervene in the  selection   process for the  post of the Special Secretary, Finance, the   Chandigarh  Administration has  turned  down the request  of the Punjab Government to  withdrawn the name of  Varun Roojam from the Ministry  of Home. Sources  said the   administration had  conveyed its  helplessness to the government.

Continuing  with its  flip-flop over the   selection of officers,  the Punjab Government had asked the Administration to withdraw  Roojam’s  name  from the panel sent for  the appointment of the Special Secretary, Finance, on deputation recently. This  was the sixth time in the recent past that the government had changed its  mind over the selection of the  officers.  Earlier, it had withdrawn the name of   KK  Yadav, whose name the Administration had sent to the  Ministry of Home  for the  appointment of Special Secretary, Finance.

At that time, the Administration had acceded to the  request  and called  back the  name from the  Ministry of Home  and  sent Varun Roojam’s.

Sources  in the Administration said it would  be very  difficult  for the Administration to  tell the Ministry of Home  to stall the  selection process. An officer  said the  entire  process  was  tough.

Punjab  did the same  thing with the panel of the Finance Secretary when the government sent the panel of the officers twice. This has also happened with the panel of the SSP when the government recalled the  panel when one of the officers faced an inquiry.
