Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi honoured 11 persons for their distinguished contribution in the field of visual arts at the Dr MS Randhawa Auditorium, Punjab Kala Bhavan, today.

Ten of the 11 persons who were honoured were visual artists, while one was an art critic and cultural correspondent and all of them were either of Punjabi origin or settled in Punjab.

This was for the first time that 11 persons related to the Punjabi visual art world were honoured on a common platform during a special ceremony. The award carried a citation, plaque, shawl and a cheque for Rs 51,000 each.

The awardees were Baldev Gambhir, Basudeb Biswas, Jaspal S, Madan Lal, Late Malkit Singh, Nirupama Dutt, Prabhinder Lall, Sidharth, Satwant Singh, Surjit Kaur and Thukral and Tagra.— TNS
