Punjab colts in command on Day 1

Punjab bowlers fired in unison to bundle out visitors Odisha for just 155 runs before Jagmeet Singh and Arjun Verma stitched an unbeaten 82-run partnership to help the hosts gain an upper hand on the opening day of their U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match at the Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar today.    

At the draw of stumps, Jagmeet was batting on 44 while Verma remained undefeated on 34.  

Earlier, electing to bat, Odisha made a decent start to their innings as Swastik Samal and Kunal Mallick added 60 runs for the opening wicket. 

The duo was separated when Rohit Kumar was dismissed by Mallick for 26 runs. His wicket, however, triggered a slump as the visitors lost their remaining nine batsmen for just 95 runs. Jyoti R Behera remained unbeaten on 34. 

For the hosts, Rahul Kashyap (3/19) and Rohit Kumar (3/41) claimed three wickets apiece, while Prerit Dutta bagged 2/27.         

Mumbai labour to 183/5 

Mumbai closed the opening day's play of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match against Punjab on 183/5 after the visitors chose to bat at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala today.  

SZ Mulani (18 not out) and skipper Sairaj B Patil (15 not out) were at crease when the umpires decided to call off the day.

Mumbai had a slow but solid start to their innings as Hardik Tamore Vaidik Murkar added 98 runs in 48.3 overs for the opening wicket before Jagjit Singh struck for the hosts. 

The speedster removed Murkar (55) and Siddharth Akre (0) within the space of three balls to bring Punjab back into the game. 

AA Sardesai did not last long either, falling to Mayank Markande for 6. Markande then cleaned up Cr Sutar (19) to reduce the visitors to 149/4. 

Six balls later, Sanvir Singh removed a set Tamore to spell further trouble for Mumbai. The opener made 67 runs off 204 balls.
