Mohali, September 21

Residents here have been facing inconvenience as all saanjh kendras in the district have been shut for the past two days.

During a random survey, the centres in Mohali were found locked and people were seen returning empty-handed. “I came for my police clearance certificate but here everything is shut and the authorities are least bothered about public works,” said Deepak, a local resident, who visited the Saanjh Kendra in Sector 71 and found it locked.

Similarly, a schoolteacher, who came for police verification at the Saanjh Kendra in the police headquarters at Sector 76, said nobody was there to listen to them. “It’s just ridiculous as the work at saanjh kendras have come to a halt for no solid reason. I have been told that the entire staff of the Saanjh Kendra has been deputed for some other work. Nobody knows here when the work in the centres would resume,” she said.

As many as 27 services are provided at these centres. Each centre has a staff of four persons. According to sources, in the past a couple of days, several important works such as police verification of tenants, servants and the school staff, have suffered. Sources claimed that nearly 125 passport verifications had been kept pending.

DSP Amroz, who heads the saanjh kendras here, said these had been shut due to the law and order situation. “When it improved, the work would resume,” said the DSP.
