PU judokas win inter-varsity championship

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University’s judokas emerged the overall champions on the concluding day of All-India Inter-University Judo (men) Championship here today.

Panjab University’s judokas emerged the overall champions on the concluding day of All-India Inter-University Judo (men) Championship here today. The host university won the title by scoring 29 points. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, finished second with 19 points while Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, finished third with a total score of nine points. Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) University, Gorakhpur, claimed the fourth position with five points

Meanwhile, in the individual category, Vijay Kumar Yadav of DDU, Gorakhpur, finished first in the 60kg category. He defeated Pardeep Saini of Panjab University in a close encounter. Manish Khawale of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada (BAM) University, Aurangabad, and Ankush Lathwal of MDU, Rohtak, finished joint third.

In the 66kg category, Vikas Kharb of the host university defeated Aman of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, to claim the pole position. Jatin of MDU, Rohtak, and Vaidya Ajinka of SB Phule Pune University finished third.

Harshdeep Singh of Guru Nanak Dev University won the title in the 81kg category after defeating Harshal Thite of Dr. BAM University, Aurangabad. Divesh of Kurukshetra University and Ashish of MDU, Rohtak, were declared joint third.

Harshdeep also won the title in the open weight category after defeating Rajesh Sharma of Punjabi University, Patiala. Sunil Sheoran of Panjab University and Kuldeep of Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior, claimed joint third position.
